How to Hike the John Muir Trail Without Falling Down…

The John Muir Trail (JMT) is a 211-mile backcountry trail in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California.

The trail boasts some of the world’s best scenery and runs from Yosemite Valley to Mt. Whitney and barely touches civilization… no roads, no towns, just pure unadulterated nature.  The John Muir Trail crosses Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Yosemite National Parks and countless other wilderness areas giving it distinctly unique terrains at various points along the trail.

And I should know…

In 2013, a few friends and I celebrated my husband, Brock’s, 30th birthday by hiking the John Muir Trail and what a celebration it turned out to be.

Wendy’s Ultimate List of Things to do in Napa…

My name is Wendy and I have lived near Napa for the past six years.

Napa can best be described in these five words:

  • Wine;
  • Scenic;
  • Food;
  • Retreat; and
  • Historic!

Women should consider visiting Napa because it’s the ideal getaway vacation. Spectacular views, scrumptious food, award-winning wines, relaxing and rejuvenating spas, gourmet cooking classes…and so much more.

Girlfriends and couples alike will be pleased.

Whether you  watch the world beneath you as you silently soar across the vineyards in a hot air balloon, shop for one-of-a-kind antiques, wander through special art collections while sipping on a glass of ruby red cabernet, or relax at the end of the day with a massage before dinner under the stars, Napa has it all…

How to Conquer San Diego’s Potato Chip Rock…

“Hiking is NOT one of my superpowers,” I said to my three companions.

But it was too late to turn back; we were more than halfway there.

A week before, I had seen a photo taken at San Diego’s Potato Chip Rock – a sliver of stone hovering 2,800 feet over the ridge near the summit of Mt. Woodson, and I knew I had to get there.

Sure, when I was in my early 20’s, I easily clambered up New Hampshire’s 6,148 foot Mt. Washington. Three different times. But that was decades ago.

Comparatively, Mt. Woodson is only 2,800 feet in elevation. I did some quick math… Mt. Washington is 2.2 times higher than Mt. Woodson, and I’m approximately 2.2+/- times older than I was the last time I climbed it. Good to go!  Continue
