How to Spend Your 60th Birthday…

Zip Lining

So my mom turned 60 this month.

And just guess how she wanted to spend it…

  • Eating crappy food at Apple Bee’s?  Nope.
  • Dying her hair purple?  Nope.
  • Playing bingo at the community center?  Nope.

No, my mom wanted to spend her 60th birthday zip lining!

So the good folks at Margarita Adventures showed us the ropes (no pun intended) and a damn good time…

How to Experience Petaluma, California Like a Local…

Petaluma California River

My name is Annette and my city is Petaluma, California.

I have lived in my city Petaluma for a total of 29 years.

My city is best described by these five words: charming, gardening-haven, historic, diverse, and community-driven.

The most famous thing about my city is that the movie American Graffiti was filmed here in 1972. Every year Petaluma pays tribute to the movie with the Salute to American Graffiti event. The downtown streets are blocked off and attendees can view classic cars, listen to rock n’ roll music and cruise the main drag.

The best way to explore my city is on foot or by car. You must stroll through the Historic downtown for shopping and eating, then, drive through the beautiful Victorians that line the West Side.

When my girlfriends come for a visit, I always take them to Hiro’s Japanese Restaurant for the Red Dragon Roll, Ahi Poke and a Sake Cocktail.

A Girlfriend’s Guide to Tucson, Arizona

Tucson Sunset From Gates Pass

My name is Sara and my city is Tucson.

I have lived in my city Tucson for 25 years—yup, born and raised!

My city is best described by these five words: sprawling, kind, community, adobe, and hot!

The most famous thing about my city is its natural landscape.

The best way to explore my city is by bike—Tucson has hundreds of miles of bike lanes!

When my girlfriends come for a visit, I always take them to El Charro because they have amazing margaritas and some of the best Mexican food in town. In fact, they invented the chimichanga!

A Las Vegas Guide for all Trekity’s Sin Sisters!

Las Vegas Guide Air Nation Show

You seem like the kind of women that prefer their vodka straight up, so why not hear the best picks of Vegas from someone who’s spent almost twenty years there?

My name is Hilary Billings and my city is Las Vegas, Nevada.

My city is best described by these five words: allure, abandonment, entertainment, neon, and of course, lust.

What’s the most famous thing about my city? Well, what’s in a name? The Strip? The showgirls? The roulette tables or its Rat Pack & mafia studded history? I guess it just depends on what matters to you.

The best way to explore my city is on foot. Wear good walking shoes. Read more about why.

When my girlfriends come for a visit, I always take them to Firefly  first for delicious afternoon sangria and tapas. There’s no better food for catching up with friends than tapas.

The best place to take a guy on a date is Sambalatte. It’s a fun atmosphere and they have rad drinks and live music most days. It’s casual and a great place to get to know someone.

When I want to get my social dance on, I always go to The Aruba downtown on Friday nights. They have at least four solid hours of jazz and swing music for people to dance to.

The most random thing about my city is that even though it has been dubbed the city of sin, it was originally settled by Mormon missionaries.

Ski and Snowboard; Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Ski and Snowboard; Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Located in a desolate corner of Wyoming (which incidentally is the U.S.’s least populated state) lies some of Northern America’s best and relatively undisturbed skiing.

Named after fur trappers who descended into the valley – which appeared to be a “hole” from above - Jackson Hole is a wonderland for winter sports. Two mountains – the Rendevous and Apres Vous (meaning “meet with you” and “after you,” respectively) – dominate the valley floor. Continue

Slot Canyon Exploration; Antelope Valley, Arizona

You’ve been to the Grand Canyon.

You’ve hiked to the top of Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park and trekked along the rim of Bryce Canyon.

Exploring Arches National Park in Utah

Arches National Park; Utah

Out of all of Utah’s national parks – Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and the north rim of the Grand Canyon – Arches unfortunately gets skipped by potential visitors. With fewer than one million visitors each year, there is a huge opportunity to enjoy the vast high-desert lands in solitude.

About Arches National Park

Arches national park is a dynamic – ever changing – land with new forming and disappearing arches, spires, fins, windows, pinnacles, and miraculously balanced rocks taking place every year. With over 2,000 recorded structures the park has something to awe at around every corner.

The park is desert land located in elevations ranging from 4,085 to 5,653 feet (1,245-1,723) above sea level. While the park is open year round the climate varies dramatically depending on the season. Summers are very hot while winters are dry and cold. Fluctuations in as much as 50 degrees may occur within any given day.

Monumental Camping; Monument Valley, Arizona

Monument Valley, Arizona

You’ll recognize it immediately. The two-lane road with a broken yellow stripe down the middle is straight as an arrow. It disappears on the horizon as if it has been swallowed by the crested buttes rising in the distance. You swear you have seen this surreal scenery before, but where?

It’s only later you realize it’s one of the world’s most photographed places, an iconic image of the American Southwest  that is haunting and spellbinding. A place that draws you into its vast desert space to speak to your soul.Continue

3 Day Itinerary to Wine Tasting Paso Robles, California

Wine Tasting; Paso Robles, California

It’s a bold claim.

Napa Valley isn’t the best wine tasting region in California.

The lesser known Paso Robles, California has award-winning wineries, sunning scenery, and world-class cuisines.

But that’s not all…

The tasting prices are very reasonable and rooms far less crowded.

Oh, and did I forget to mention the experience is casual – without the snobbish attitude you get in Napa.

Summer of Salt; Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City, Utah

It’s like the surface of Venus, barren and haunting.

Even the most resilient plants and animals can’t live there. It’s a snow white wasteland of salt and sky covering a vast area of northwestern Utah.  Adding to the eerie atmosphere is the utterly flat and smooth landscape, so flat that they say you can see the Earth’s curvature.

Is it true?

You will have to see for yourself…Continue

The Best Place to Admire Southwest Art…

Santa Fe, New Mexico

“All of the earth colors on a painter’s palette,” Georgia O’Keeffe said, “are out there in the many miles of badlands.”

Fortunately for us, she used all of them in her many years of residency in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  The picturesque desert town inhabited by Pueblo tribes, Mexican caballeros and American ranchers provided a perfect home for the New York painter.

Flash forward fifty years, and Santa Fe has become an artistic boom town.  Named an official UNESCO Creative City, where galleries, studios and exhibitions abound, the town regularly finds itself atop guidebooks’ “Where to Go” lists.  If you do decide to take an artistic pilgrimage to the city of “Holy Faith,” be warned: O’Keefe thought she was only going for a visit, before making the badlands her home.
