On July 1, 2012, best friends, Amy Lukas and Mary Catterlin embarked on a journey to canoe the perimeter of Lake Michigan – the sixth largest freshwater lake in the world.
And that’s not all…
They hand built their canoe (nicknamed Makeba) by chopping down a cottonwood tree and hollowing out the 2,600 pound log!
